What is BodyFX?
BodyFX is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that combines radiofrequency energy, deep tissue heating, and light vacuum pressure to distribute heat into the skin and underlying fat. This heating has two effects: it melts fat cells, and it causes the skin across the treatment areas to tighten.
What areas can be treated with BodyFX?
BodyFX improves contour on the abdomen, flanks, hips, and thighs. BodyFX also can improve the appearance of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.
How is BodyFX done?
The BodyFX handpiece is pressed gently onto the skin in the treatment area. The handpiece uses vacuum suction to pull the skin and underlying fat upward between the two conducting metal pieces. When the tissue is drawn up a pulse of radiofrequency energy is delivered across the two metal pieces. This energy passes through the skin and fat layer. This RF energy heats the tissue to 40 degrees Celsius, the temperature where fat cells melt, but surrounding non-fat tissues are not harmed. Once the tissue reaches 40 degrees Celsius, the BodyFX handpiece cuts the RF energy and releases the drawn up skin. The handpiece is then moved to the next adjacent spot and the cycle is repeated. This is done in a stamping pattern across the treatment area until the entire area has been covered.
How does BodyFX work?
When the RF energy moves through the skin and fat cells, it causes heating under the skin. As mentioned above, the temperature is raised to 40 degrees Celsius. At that temperature, a portion of the fat cells melt and are destroyed. These destroyed cells are then flushed from the body over the next couple of weeks by the body’s lymphatic system.
The second part of the BodyFX is skin tightening. When RF energy enters the dermis layer, the layer beneath the epidermis, it converts to heat. When the body senses heat in the dermis it thinks there has been a wound. Its response is to instantly remodel the collagen in the area. Since collagen provides the skin’s structural framework, this instantly tightens the skin across the treatment area. But the real tightening comes as the body also initiates production of new collagen to “heal” the perceived wound (even though there is not any wound at all). This boost in collagen continues for up to six months after treatment.
The combination reduces fat and tightens skin. The result is a slimmer contour.
